Industry Launches Reopening Toolkit for Frontline Staff
Glasgow’s industry has launched a reopening toolkit for hospitality and leisure businesses to help them reopen responsibly and support frontline workers.
Developed by Experience Glasgow, this guide has been designed to navigate the new normal to help equip staff with essential skills and knowledge to carry out their roles as businesses reopen following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Anxiety levels within the trade are at an all time high and after listening to members of the Experience Glasgow industry group and understanding their needs, the toolkit framework was researched and developed by key stakeholders with hospitality workers at the heart.
The practical toolkit aims to reduce reopening anxiety in the trade and provides frontline workers with guidance on general behaviours and responsibilities; keeping a safe distance; infection control; customer care; physical distancing and wellbeing.
Communicating with customers is also important, and the guide touches on how best to interact with returning customers. Advice also extends to signposting to relevant bodies including NHS Test & Trace, Scotland’s Hospitality Health and cleaning best practices.
Gordon McIntyre, Vice Chairman of Experience Glasgow and chair of Hospitality Health, said:

“As we enter Phase 2, the need for descriptive and practical resources to ensure a safe and successful return for the hospitality industry has never been greater.
“We all have a vital role to play in supporting Scotland’s hospitality recovery from Coronavirus, physically, mentally, and economically, and we hope that this toolkit will help frontline staff understand their responsibilities with reopening.
Judith Eck, business support manager at Experience Glasgow explains:
“Supporting our businesses and their teams is crucial to the success of reopening. It’s an anxious time and a new normal for everyone. We hope that this toolkit helps workers with their successful return to work.”
The guidance supports the Scottish Government advisory document for operators and is free to anyone to download to support their staff return to work.
